Eric Dane plays Dr. Mark Sloan aka: Dr. McSteamy in Grey’s Anatomy. He was born November 9th 1972 in San Francisco, California, USA. His full birth name is Eric William Dane. He is 6′ 03/4″.
Eric’s father was an architect and interior designer based in San Francisco. His mother was a homemaker. He is the oldest of two brothers. When Eric was in High School he was a good athlete. There, he started amateur stage work by playing “Joe Keller” in Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons”, and realized that this was all he wanted to do.
On October 29, 2004, in Las Vegas, Eric Dane married actress Rebecca Gayheart, who was previously engaged to producer/director Brett Ratner, who is director of none other than X-Men:The Last Stand (2006). In it Dane plays the character of “Jamie Madrox”, the Multiple Man. Eric is best friends with Balthazar Getty and is the godfather of Getty’s son, Cassius.
In 1993 he made his television debut in Los Angeles shortly after moving there, on “The Wonder Years” (1988). He ended up doing little bits on the TV series, “Married with Children” (1987) (1995), “Silk Stalkings” (1991) (1996) and “Roseanne” (1988) (1996). He has also played medical doctors more than once, his first role as a doctor was on “Dr. Cooper” in “Gideon’s Crossing” (2000). From 2003-2004, he has been a recurring guest star on “Jason Dean” in the hit show “Charmed” (1998). And in 2006 is when he appeared on Grey’s Anatomy. His first leading role on a big screen though was in 2006 in the German made feature_Open Water 2.
